KARACHI: A woman and her young daughter were shot dead in Nazimabad on Monday, police said.

They said that Rubina Shamoon, 60, and her 25-year-old daughter, Hira Tariq, were found murdered in their home near Chiniot Hospital in Nazimabad-4.

Nazimabad DSP Jamil Bangash said no one from the neighbourhood heard any gunshot sound. When a maid came to the residence in the afternoon, she saw the door was open and both the women were lying dead.

The police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the double murder. He said it appeared that the double murder was motivated by some personal enmity.

He said nothing was taken away from the house, which was only in the use of the victim woman and her daughter.

He said there were no sign of resistance, hinting at the possibility that the victims might be familiar with their killer(s).

Rubina’s second husband, Shamoon, also reached the scene and told media that his wife had a daughter, Hira, from her ex-husband Tariq.

He said he was living with his second wife in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and visited Rubina sometimes in Nazimabad.

The victims originally hailed from Punjab while Shamoon belonged to Swat.

He said he did not know that his wife had some enmity with anyone.

Investigators collected two spent bullet casings fired from a 9mm pistol from the crime scene.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the Preedy police claimed to have arrested two women, identified as Aqeela and Saira, and recovered 600 grams of crystal meth and Rs477,000 from them.

The Boat Basin police claimed to have arrested suspect Wazir Ahmed alias Chacha. South SSP Ijaz Ahmed said he was the ringleader of the “chacha gang”.
