GILGIT: A spring tree planting campaign kicked off in all the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday.

The main ceremony of the event was held at the GB Disaster Management Authority’s headquarters in Gilgit organised by the forest department.

Chief secretary Mohammad Asif was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Asif stressed the need for creating awareness among people about the importance of tree plantation in the region.

He said climate change had become a global issue, and stressed the need for tree plantation for survival of humans.

The chief secretary said the Ten Billion Tree project was launched to ensure a clean and green Pakistan.

He appealed to the people to play their role in making the tree plantation drive a success. Free plants were also distributed among the people on the occasion.
