KARACHI: The SHO of the Korangi Industrial Area police station was removed on Sunday after muggers looted several citizens stuck in a traffic jam at Korangi causeway on Saturday night.

The incident triggered an outcry in the media, particularly on social media, prompting Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf to put a question mark on the performance of the provincial government.

DIG-East Muquddus Haider said a group of robbers involved in the incident had been ‘traced’ and police had information that they had been arrested in the past also and released.

He said Korangi SSP Faisal Bashir was working on the case as one citizen had lodged a complaint about it.

He said the SHO was removed as despite clear orders no police mobile was stationed at the place where many passengers were deprived of their cash and valuables.

The police claimed that around 10-12 motorcyclists were looted. However, reports being circulated on social media said that 10 armed dacoits had looted 100 passengers on the main road.
