KOHAT: Hundreds of residents of Muslimabad Town blocked the Indus Highway here the other day against shortage of water for last one month after a tubewell ceased to function.

Former MPA Dr Iqbal Fana led the demonstration.

The protesters said they won’t end the protest unless the tubewell was repaired. They said that the public health engineering department’s officials remained absent from their offices and did not perform duties.

The protesters regretted that they had been complaining to the authorities concerned to repair the tubewell, but to no avail.

Later, officials of the district administration and the public health engineering department reached the spot and assured the protesters of repairing the tubewell with immediate effect.

FUNCTION: Speakers at a function held in connection with the World Radio Day here the other day said the medium was still very much popular with the people, especially the elderly and the army men deployed at border posts. They said people still listened to BBC news, national news, and other programmes broadcast in national and regional languages.

They said radio had not lost its importance among people despite arrival of mobile phones and TV channels, especially in the mountainous areas, where there was no electricity or mobile signals.
