BAJAUR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNA Gul Dad Khan said here on Saturday that sports activities were vital for promotion of peace and stability and the government was taking steps to provide sports facilities to the youth across the district.

He said this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Pakistan Sports Festival here at Bajaur Sports Complex in Khar. The festival was being organised jointly by the provincial sports department, district administration and security forces.

People, including political and social activists, traders and sports fans, attended the opening ceremony of the festival, which would continue till March 23.

Senior officials of the security forces, district administration, sport department and police, including Commandant Bajaur Scouts Col Waqas Shuaib Jan and district police officer Abdul Samad Khan, were also present at the ceremony.

On this occasion, students of various private schools presented national songs. Moreover, some popular singers of the province also showed up to entertain the audience.

Addressing the ceremony, MNA Gul Dad Khan lauded the security forces, sports department and district administration for arranging the sports festival, which would help in finding new talent in the district.

He said that the government had planned to establish a modern sports complex in every tehsil of the region. He said that work on sports complexes in Nawagai and Mamond had been launched a few months ago.

The MNA said that the renovation of Bajaur Sports Complex was under way at a cost of Rs29 million.
