DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Dera Ismail Khan election commissioner on Friday directed the district administration to stop the public meetings of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Yarik area on Feb 5 and in Baisakhi area on Feb 7 as they amounted to violation of the election code of conduct.

Mr Rehman is scheduled to address a public meeting in Yarik on Saturday (today), and a rally at the Baisakhi Ground on Monday as part of the election campaign of his party’s candidate for the Dera city mayor slot.

Election commissioner Hayatullah Jan has issued written instructions to the deputy commissioner and the district police officer to stop these meetings.

It merits a mention here that a rally will be organised on the Yarik interchange of the Hakla-DI Khan Motorway to welcome JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday.

The second phase of the local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is scheduled for March 27.

However, the local JUI-F leadership has said the meetings would go ahead as per schedule.

JUI-F, PPP and PTI are actively campaigning for the seat of Dera city mayor slot.
