KOHAT: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited on Friday launched work on laying of a 16-inch diameter line from Sheikhan to the Kohat city, and also approved a 91-kilometre pipeline for provision of gas to Lachi tehsil’s urban and rural areas with a cost of Rs700 million.

The projects would help resolve the longstanding problem of gas outages and low pressure in the city.

The go-ahead was given at a meeting chaired by SNGPL North managing director Saqib Arbab, general manager Peshawar Taj Ali Khan, general manager transmission Shoaib Khan and others, according to a statement issued here.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Gumbat tehsil chairman Sajid Iqbal, former PTI district president Aftab Alam and chairman of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CNG filling stations’ association Haji Sajid Islam also attended the meeting.

POLIO ERADICATION: Deputy commissioner Roshan Mehsud has asked the stakeholders to extend anti-polio vaccination drive to the Afghan refugee camps, and immediately report any refusal cases to the administration.

He issued the directives while chairing a meeting of the polio eradication committee on Friday.

Mr Mehsud asked the stakeholders to create awareness among the people about the fatal disease.

BODY CAM RECORDERS: The traffic police wardens and Madadgar Force officials in Kurram district have been provided 15 body cam recorders (BCRs) on the directives of DIG Kohat division Tahir Ayub to ensure the personnel do not commit any wrongdoing and their behaviour with the public remains polite.

A statement issued on Friday said public complaints were being received about misconduct of traffic wardens and the staff at the police station with the public, which was difficult to confirm, thus the provision of BCRs. The BCRs come with both video and audio features.

District police officer Arbab Shafiullah Khan the new technology would help check whether the police officials were resolving the public issues in time.

KASHMIR DAY FUNCTION: Special children at the school for deaf and dumb on Friday expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people at a ceremony held in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day.

The children condemned the atrocities against the Kashmiris by the Indian army and demanded the right to plebiscite for them to decide their future course.
