KHYBER: Two minor children drowned in a pond in Bara here on Thursday.

Family sources said that two-year-old Zainab and Kherullah, also of the same age, were playing outside their house in Qazi Abad locality of Shalobar when they accidentally slipped into the water pond which was dug out for providing water to a nearby under-construction house.

The bodies of the two minors were retrieved from the pond by the local residents when family members made announcements about their missing from homes. Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a barber shop in Jamrud bazaar which created panic among the shoppers and traders.

Local police said the attackers were riding on a motorcycle and they left behind a handwritten paper warning the barbers against shaving beards.

Police said they registered a case against the unidentified motorcyclists and have started investigations.

The Jamrud administration had on a number of times imposed ban on pillion riding, but failed to implement it effectively.

Meanwhile, four girl students sustained injuries when the van carrying them to school overturned in Jamrud on Thursday. Rescue 1122 staff shifted the injured students to Jamrud hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
