KOHAT: Additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed ordered closure of six girls and boys schools and a nursing school here on Thursday on the recommendations of the Covid-19 surveillance committee following emergence of positive cases.

The schools include Working Folks Grammar Girls High School, Bannu Road; Government Girls Higher Secondary School No1; Government High School, Akhorwal, Darra Adamkhel; Government Higher Secondary School, Dhoda; Government High School, Collegeabad; Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Gumbat; and Nursing School at KDA Town.

In a statement, the additional deputy commissioner said that those with Covid-19 symptoms should quarantine at their homes and report to the KDA hospital’s isolation ward.

He directed the education department to convey the orders of one-week closure to the principals, staff and students of the said schools. He also asked the SHOs to restrict movement in the respective areas and the tehsil municipal administration to ensure spray of the schools.

He directed that the staff and students should be allowed entry after a week only after vaccination.

MOTORCYCLES IMPOUNDED: The excise and taxation department, Road Transport Authority (RTA), and traffic police here on Thursday impounded over 40 non-registered motorcycles in a crackdown launched on the directives of commissioner Javed Marwat.

A statement issued here said that the excise inspectors, Mehboob Shah and Jan Alam and RTA official Shaukat Zaman shifted the motorcycles to the traffic headquarters.

The excise staff in a public message asked the vehicle owners to keep the registration papers with them while going out on the road.

Meanwhile, the district police officers of Kohat and Hangu during visits to various areas asked the officials to tighten the noose around criminals and suspicious people without showing any leniency.

PASSING-OUT PARADE: The fourth batch of former Levies and Khasadar personnel passed out after completing their basic training to join the Kurram district police on Thursday.

According to a statement issued here, 369 Khasadar and Levies personnel were trained and the ceremony in this regard was attended by Col Hamad Khan and Lt-Col Mohammad Asim, high police officials and elders.
