There was no issue of the newspaper on Jan 29, 1972, on account of Eidul Azha holiday. The following excerpt has been taken from the Jan 27 issue of the newspaper.

KARACHI: The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant will go into full operation within the next two months. This information was given by Dr. I.H. Usmani, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, during the visit by the Central Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Education, Mr. Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, to the plant here last evening [Jan 26]. Dr. Usmani said the present 50 megawatt generating capacity of the plant will be increased to 125 M.W. during this period.

Asked about the negotiations going on between him and the Chairman of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation about providing power from the plant to the KESC, he said that the matter had been passed on to the Government for final decision. Dr. Usmani said that negotiations on the subject did not make any headway, as he had asked the KESC management to reduce the rate of 20 paisa per unit for domestic consumption of the electricity. Dr. Usmani said this rate was the highest in the world and that the KESC had been very unfair to the general public by making about 18 per cent profit per unit of electricity.
