PESHAWAR, Jan 25: Promising Vaqas led the opening day of the 37th Bank AlFalah Frontier Open golf championship, which teed off at the PAF Golf Course Friday.

Vaqas, a young and upcoming golfer proved his mettle on first day by carding 67, five under par, over 18-hole; 33, three under on the front nine and 34, two under on the back nine.

It was superb form shown by Vaqas of the Islamabad Golf Club, he also had three birdies on the front nine at holes number 3, 4, 8 and did the same on back nine at holes number 12 and 18.

He was followed by another experienced golfer of Islamabad Taimur Hasan, who carded 72, par. He played 35, one under at front with three birdies at 4, 8 and ninth holes and 37, one over par, at back nine, with two birdies at 12 and 18.

Taimur also made doubles bogy at hole no. 10 and dropped stroke at 1, 6 and 11. Tariq Mehmood carded 75, three over par, 37, one over at front nine and 38, two over par at back nine. He made three birdies at 9 and 17 while missed the same at 1, 3 and 15 besides a double bogy at 10.

He was followed by Shahid Javed with his 76 gross, four over par, with 35 one under at front and 41, five over par at back nine. He had two birdies at front nine with a triple bogy at hole number third. His ball was intercepted by towering trees as a result he made triple bogey. He also lost a stroke at 1, 11, 12 and 16.

Shumail Aziz, a three handicapper, carded 75, three over par, 35, one under at front nine and 40, four over par at back nine. He made three birdies at 4, 5, and 10 and also failed to sink the ball at holes number 1, 11, 12, and 15. He also made double bogey at 14.

Dr. Aimal Zaman, the top seed, scored 76, four over par with 39, three over par at front nine and 37, one over at back nine. He posted three birdies at 4, 12 and 17 and made double bogey at holes number one while missed a stroke at 5, 7, 10, and 14.

Another fancied player Zeeshan Ali carded 77, five over par over 18 holes. He finished with 37, one par at front nine and 40, four over par at back nine. Zeeshan made three birdies at 3, 8, and nine and lost the stroke at holes number 1, 7 and 18 while did triple bogey at 10.—APP
