Cycling: Army win trophy

LAHORE, Nov 22: Army with 148 points won the 54th National cycling championship on Tuesday. Sui Southern Gas claimed the second position with 138 points. Defending champions Wapda, though lost the title, they displayed a champions’ performance earning the third spot with 91 points. They were allowed to take part on the third day of the championship and that too, due to a court order.

Railways aggregated 57 points to gain fourth position followed by Punjab and Sindh who shared the fifth place with 14 points each.

On the final day, two finals were held with Army and Wapda winning one each.

Muhammad Saleem earned a gold medal for Army in the elimination race. Noor Alam of Sui Southern Gas, who was declared the best cyclist with 36 points, bagged a silver medal while Mohammad Sohail of Railways snatched a bronze medal.

In 1000 metres sprint, Zulifqar Ali of Wapda claimed gold medal followed by Noor Alam (silver) and Muhammad Saleem (bronze).
