KARACHI: The Met department has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms in Karachi and other parts of Sindh between Tuesday (today) and Jan 7 (Friday) under a new weather system that entered northern Balochistan on Monday.

Weather is likely to be cloudy on Tuesday in Karachi with chances of rain-thunderstorms in the evening/night. The minimum and maximum temperature is expected to range between 14 degrees Celsius and 24 °C.

The minimum and maximum temperature recorded in the city on Monday was 16 °C and 25.5 °C with 40 per cent and 32pc relative humidity in the morning and evening, respectively.

“A strong westerly wave has entered north Balochistan that will gradually spread over the central and upper parts of Sindh and then the whole country.

“Under the influence of this system, widespread rain-thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are likely to occur in the districts of Dadu, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allayar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot and Tharparkar from Jan 4 to Jan 7,” the Met department stated in its advisory.

Last week, several areas of Karachi had received light to moderate shower during the first winter spell of rain.
