HYDERABAD, Nov 19: Dist-rict Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the district management to hold a judicial inquiry into the death of a one and a half years old child who had drowned in a gutter in Qasimabad.
At a meeting with union council nazims of Qasimabad at the office of Taluka Nazim Noor Mohammad Shoro, Mr Jamil ordered the judicial inquiry after some nazims showed no-confidence over the inquiry officer appointed earlier for the case.
Answering a question, the district nazim said appointment of the previous inquiry officer had become infructuous after the order for the judicial inquiry. However, he said, evidence collected by the officer could be helpful in the judicial inquiry.
He said the judicial authority had been requested through an official letter.
He also gave a cheque for Rs50,000 to the maternal uncle of the child.
WIRE THEFT: The district nazim expressed concern over the theft of electricity wire on the night of Nov 16 in Deh Shah Bukhari, Qasimabad, after which 22 villages were plunged into darkness.
Responding to complaints of residents of the area, the district nazim along with the Qasimabad taluka nazim and the union council nazim concerned visited various villages of Deh Shah Bukhari on Friday and assured people for early restoration of electricity.
He directed police of the area to probe into the matter.
POLIO CASES: The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Hifzur Rehman, who has come from Bangladesh to participate in the anti-polio campaign in Jamshoro district, said while briefing Jamshoro District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar on Friday that 21 cases of polio were detected in Pakistan.
He said out of 21 four cases were reported in Sindh – one in Sanghar, two in Larkana and one in Ghotki.
Dr Rehman complained that parents in some union councils of the district did not cooperate with the medical teams to vaccinate children.
