SWABI, Nov 17: The provincial government has decided to spend the funds allocated for holding sports competitions in schools on quake survivors because all annual tournaments have been postponed. This has been stated in a letter sent to executive district officers (education) in the province. The district tournaments were to start after Eid ul Fitr and were expected to continue for more than one month across the province.

The letter says that a high-level meeting had decided to cancel annual tournaments in view of the Oct 8 earthquake which killed more than 85,000 people in the country. Through the letter the EDOs have been directed to convey the decision of the provincial government to all the heads of schools under their control for compliance.

“The funds allocated for tournaments in each district should be deposited with the respective EDOs and receipts be sent to the director schools and literacy NWFP for consolidation”, the letter says.
