LAHORE, Nov 15: The Punjab government sanctioned on Tuesday new posts of executive district officer (municipal services) and district officer (solid waste management) in five city district governments in the province, including Lahore.

The sanction to the BS-19 and BS-18 posts has been accorded by Governor Khalid Maqbool under the Punjab Local Government Ordinance-2001.

The four other city district governments are Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.

The offices of district officers of transport, spatial planning, besides that of executive district officer, work services, have also been regrouped, placing them along with the district officer, solid waste management, under the executive district officer, municipal services, in the five city district governments.

The municipal services EDO will head district offices of transport, solid waste management, spatial planning and environment.

The SWM district officer will also look after treatment and disposal works, including landfill sites and recycling plants, besides industrial and hospital waste treatment and disposal.

The spatial planning DO will be responsible for master planning, land use, zoning and classification or reclassification, urban design and urban renewal

programme, promulgation of building rules and planning standards.

The office will also oversee landscape, municipal ornamentation, urban and housing development, including urban improvement, upgrading, renewal and redevelopment activities, besides preservation of historical and cultural monuments.

The existing establishments of environment and transport DOs will be restructured and regrouped under the administrative supervision of the municipal services EDO.
