PEKING: Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto … arrived here this afternoon [Nov 5] as the personal representative of President Yahya Khan for talks with the Chinese Government that would deal mainly with the tension between India and Pakistan. Mr Bhutto, a former Foreign Minister, along with a large delegation of military leaders and top officials, was welcomed at the airport by China’s Acting Foreign Minister Chi Peng-fei, Vice Foreign Minister Ha Nien-tung, the Director, First Asian Department and a number of high-ranking Chinese officials.

Mr. Bhutto and his delegation got down to top-level talks with Prime Minister Chou En-lai almost immediately after their arrival… . Chinese support on the Indo-Pakistani crisis was summed up by the slogans brandished by the 2,000-strong crowd of the airport which hailed “the unity between the Afro-Asian peoples” and expressed “support for the Pakistani people in their struggle to protect their independence against aggression and interference from abroad”.

[Meanwhile, according to news agencies at the UN,] …Ambassador Agha Shahi said his government had instructed him to draw the attention of the Security Council that “… India has not only massed its troops on the borders of Pakistan but has considerably increased its forces in … Jammu and Kashmir”.
