KARACHI, Nov 14: Over a 100,000 people of Baghdadi and Shah Beg Lane union councils area of Lyari Town have been facing an acute water shortage for the past few days as normal supplies to the areas have been disrupted.

Residents say that water shortage has been persisting in the deficit areas of the affected areas for quite some time but now the situation has aggravated.

According to them, there have been repeated protests in the locality over water shortage. The worst affected areas are Ali Mohammad Mohalla, Eidu Lane, Baloch para, Bund Mohallah, Shah Beg Lane, besides Saifi Lane, Yusuf Haroon Road, Qasar Qandi Mohalla and adjoining areas of Fida Husain Sheikha Road, Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road and D.D Chowdhry Road.

Many houses, apartment buildings and commercial concerns in Baghdadi Union areas are also getting contaminated water for the past few days.

Residents of the affected areas said sewage might be mixing with drinking water somewhere in the KWSB system as they had been receiving contaminated water.

Considering the current situation, they said there was no other wayfor them, but to resort to agitation. In this regard, they supported the planned move of UC-6 Nazim to stage a sit-in before the town office.
