KARACHI, Nov 14: A committee of experts is being formed to give a spur to the process of teaching Sindhi in accordance with the Language Act. This was announced in a statement issued here on Monday. Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Hamida Khuhro said the provincial government had made the decision to fully implement the Sindh (Teaching, Promotion and Use of Sindh Language) Act 1972, Sindh Act of No 2 of 1972 (vide handouts form CM office dated 21-10-2005 and 8-11-2005).

She further stated that this action was being taken to implement an Act, which had remained in the cold storage for the last 32 years and the process of implementation required certain steps to be completed.

She said textbooks for Sindhi Salees had already been made available for the Intermediate classes.

Further, Sindhi classes had already been started in a majority of the colleges.

“There is however a shortage in the number of Sindhi teachers which will be overcome and the recruitment of teachers is being done on an emergency basis and some teachers are being transferred from other districts to fill the gap in Karachi,” she added.

Dr Hamida Khuhro announced that an experts committee was being appointed to deal with whatever further formalities were required for the process.

Recommendations of this committee will be placed before the Chief Minister of Sindh for his approval. — APP
