KARACHI, Nov 14: High speed fibre-based local area network establishment at Karachi University will provide internet and intranet facilities to the entire faculty and administration staff. This was stated by LAN-Establishment with Wireless Computing Support Project Director Dr Aqil Burney on Monday.

He said 12km single mode and 10km multimedia fibre optic had been used for the networking. He said the idea was conceived in 2001 by him to provide the internet and intranet facilities to all the departments, research institutes and administrations units of the university. The project was in its completion stage at present, he added.

He said the HEC approved the PC-I in 2003 and KU started the project, which was now in its completion stage. There were 62 departments and 18 research institutes connected via fibre optics, he added.—PPI
