KARACHI, Nov 14: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement will undertake building iron shelters for the Oct 8 earthquake survivors in Azad Kashmir. The officials concerned of the government examined the iron shelter model in Islamabad

and granted approval for its usage in the quake-affected areas, said a statement

issued by the MQM here on Monday.

Efforts of MQM engineers and technicians were also lauded by the officials for introducing the model of safe shelter for earthquake survivors facing tough weather conditions under open sky.

Deputy Convener of the MQM Coordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar, Sindh Minister for Labour Adil Siddiqui, MQM engineers and technicians were also present on the occasion.

Giving briefing, MQM technicians said that on the call of MQM chief Altaf Hussain, the shelter measuring 10X12 was built.

The structure could be erected on an even surface by fixing the screws within 30 minutes.

It has been designed to keep the people safe from tough weather conditions, including heavy rains and snowfalls.

Initially 100 such shelters will be constructed at a cost of Rs20 million.

Other necessary things, including lantern, stoves, utensils, floor sheets, buckets and blankets, would also be provided to the survivors in the shelter.

Washrooms will also be made inside these iron-made shelters which would be equipped

with water supply system.
