KARACHI: Scores of workers and leaders of the outlawed Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Friday held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC).

A TLP spokesperson said his party was holding the protest to show solidarity with their party workers who had been allegedly subjected to executive high-handedness in Punjab while moving towards Islamabad from Lahore.

They were carrying banners inscribed with “what was the crime of youths who were subjected to police’s brutality in Punjab” etc.

Those who addressed the gathering included traders’ leader Sharjeel Goplani, TLP district South chief Allama Sultan Madani, and Saleem Attari of the Anjuman Naujawanan-i-Islam (ANI).

The protesters dispersed later.

A police officer, who wished not to be named, said there was no restriction on holding protests outside the KPC as it was a designated area for rallies.

He said the TLP local leadership had assured the police that they would hold a peaceful demonstration just outside the KPC where they would offer a prayer before ending the protest in the evening.

According to Artillery Maidan SHO Abdul Ghaffar, around 1,000-1,200 workers of the outlawed TLP gathered there.

Separately, TLP workers also took out a rally in Orangi Town.

According to Orangi SHO Azam Gopang, around 2,000 activists took out the rally from Disco Mor, Orangi No 5.
