LAHORE: A sessions court on Friday dismissed post-arrest bail petition of former Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) leader Mufti Azizur Rehman in a case of sexually abusing a student of his seminary.

Previously a judicial magistrate had denied bail to the cleric.

The cleric through his counsel pleaded that the allegations against him were bogus. He alleged that the complainant was hand in glove with his opponents at the seminary.

The counsel argued that the investigation was completed and the petitioner in any manner was not required for investigation and no useful purpose would be served by keeping him behind the bars.

The North Cantonment police registered a case on charges of sexual assault and criminal intimidation against Mufti Rehman on the complaint of Sabir Shah, the student of Jamia Manzoorul Islam, Cantonment.

The student shared a video clip of the sexual assault as a proof with police and the administration of the seminary.

The student alleged that Rehman had him and another student expelled on the charge of cheating in examinations of Wafaqul Madaris for three years.
