LAHORE: The dengue fever claimed three more lives in Punjab, taking the tally to 24 so far.

Similarly, the total number of positive cases of the virus reached 8,331 after 371 more contracted infection during the last 24 hours in Punjab.

Of them, 266 were reported from the provincial capital Lahore where the total number of positive cases reached 5,933.

Other cases were reported from Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, Hafizabad and Okara.

The official figures showed that as many as 2,079 dengue patients were under treatment at various government hospitals of Punjab, including 1,161 in the health facilities of Lahore.

The health department has enhanced the beds to 4,555 in public sector hospitals of the province to meet the growing number of positive cases, the data said.
