PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan on Wednesday visited the Peshawar Central Prison and issued directives for better facilities, especially improvement of the condition of lavatories in the juvenile barrack.

He inspected the premises and went to barracks, offices, kitchen, and remote access point for video-link with courts.

The special secretary of the home department and inspector general (prisons) also reached the prison during the chief justice’s visit, while additional district and sessions judge Tayyab Jan and judicial magistrate Mohammad Farooq Jan were also present.

The chief justice expressed concern about the poor state of lavatories in the juvenile barrack and ordered corrective measures without delay.

He also issued directions for the strengthening of the reformatory approach adopted by the jail authorities, which includes imparting of skills to prisoners to make them law-abiding citizens.

The chief justice also highlighted the importance of formal and religious education for prisoners.

During his visit, 54 prisoners were released after their cases of petty crimes were decided.
