PESHAWAR: Three members of the banned militant Islamic State (IS) group were killed in an intelligence-based operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday night, police said.

A CTD statement said the operation was conducted upon information about the presence of IS members in the Shahpur area, on the outskirts of the city.

It said when the CTD raiding team arrived at the scene, the terrorists opened fire on them which the police returned. Three of the terrorists were killed while two or three others managed to escape in the cover of darkness, it added.

The CTD said they were trying to identify the slain terrorists while a search operation against others was in progress in the area.
