SWABI, Jan 24: The appointment of 60 constables in Swabi has kicked of a controversy, with the District Nazim accusing the police of committing irregularities in the process.

Speaking at a public meeting at Zaida, attended by Provincial Minister for Education Imtiaz Hussain Gilani and high police officials, District Nazim Sher Zaman Sher alleged that the appointing authorities ignored higher educational qualifications and appointed matriculate candidates against the 60 posts.

“I have come to know that solved papers were provided to the blue-eyed boys inside the examination hall under a well-calculated scheme,” he added.

Giving vent to his ire, he said police officials had failed to check the open selling of heroin and charas in the area.

He said the law and order situation had deteriorated to such an extent that gamblers were operating dens everywhere in the district.

However, some police officials, while rejecting the charges of the District Nazim, contended that all appointments had been made on merit.
