NCA pays tribute to Azhar Jafri

LAHORE: The National College of Arts (NCA) paid rich tributes to renowned photojournalist the late Azhar Jafri by putting on display his portraits on The Mall.

Jafri had worked for Musawat, The Muslim and Dawn during his illustrious career. He stood for democracy even in the darkest times of country of the country’s history when Gen Zia imposed military dictatorship by overthrowing the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He was also a life member of the Lahore Press Club and recipient of the President’s Pride of Performance Award.

The Lahore Press Club governing body held the gesture by the NCA in high esteem, saying that Jafri had a great skill as a photographer and he was popular in the journaltic circles.

“He upheld the name of his country and nation through his work. Azhar Jafri did not restrict his skill only to himself but transferred it to others as he has many of his students in the field of journalism. His services would always be remembered with great honor and respect,” the statement added.

Earlier, a statement issued by the NCA said, “In the spirit of commemoration and remembrance the National College of Arts, pays homage to the National Heroes of Pakistan. Amongst them are poets, writers, artists and academicians. We celebrate these personalities by exclusively designing panels which are displayed, every week to make sure people are acquainted with all these renowned figures. This week we extend our tribute to Azhar Hussain Jafri who was born on Oct 9, 1950”.
