“THE Working Committee has taken the decision,” announced Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan after the Committee’s two-hour session on Sunday [Oct 13] morning. No time had been fixed for its next meeting, he added… . A letter containing the Muslim League’s decision was sent to the Viceroy before the Committee adjourned. The Viceroy’s reply was received in the afternoon. Following this the Qaed-e-Azam, accompanied by Mr. Liaquat, saw the Viceroy at 7 p.m.
…In political circles it is now known that the Muslim League has decided to join the Interim Government, and its reconstruction is expected to be an accomplished fact in the very near future. “On what basis are you going in?”— [Dawn’s political correspondent] asked a League leader after the Working Committee’s meeting. [He said:]“It is not on the basis of the Viceroy’s letter to the Qaed-e-Azam of July 22, of which neither we nor the League Council, of course, knew anything, as the Viceroy had expressly requested the Qaed-e-Azam to keep it absolutely secret. It is on the basis of the Viceroy’s broadcast of August 24 and the letters which the Viceroy wrote to the Qaed-e-Azam after his series of talks with him in New Delhi this time.”
