KARACHI: Six centres and institutes of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at Karachi University were notified as “health related research centres of the Sindh health department”.

“In pursuance of the approval accorded by the competent authority i.e., the Sindh chief minister on a summary, the following centres/institute of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, are hereby declared/ adopted as health related research centres of the health department, the government of Sindh,” reads a notification issued on Friday.

The names of the ‘adopted’ facilities are: Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, Pharmaceutical Testing Laboratories of HEJ Institute, Jamil-ur-Rahman Centre for Genomics, National Institute of Virology, Sino-Pakistan Traditional Medicine Research Centre (HEJ) and Centre for Bioequivalence and Clinical Research. “With this new official designation, these centres will conduct the much-needed research focusing on the genetic and environmental aspects of the prevailing diseases in Sindh,” said ICCBS director Prof Iqbal Choudhary.
