LAHORE: Opposition leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has chided the government for convening just meetings on price control instead of taking practical measures to save the people from inflation.

“The worst inflation cannot be bridled by holding useless and showy meetings. The task demands concrete measures,” he said, while commenting on the recent increase in the prices of essentials.

“This government has more than doubled the price of sugar from Rs52 to Rs110 per kg and flour from Rs35 to Rs75 per kg. Is this Naya Pakistan?” he said in a statement.

Shehbaz, who is also president of the PML-N, said the masses are screaming in agony and anguish over the exponential rise in the price of eggs, meat, chicken, lentils, cooking oil, essential commodities and other eatables. This practice of draining the public to their last drop of blood is the most inhuman cruelty imaginable, he added.

He alleged that the theft, corruption and consistently disastrous policies of the government had destroyed the national economy and put millions out of job. Such a raging crisis could only be resolved through concrete steps which the current administration was incapacitated to take, he said.

Shehbaz said the people are praying now to be rescued from the ‘treachery’ and ‘cruelty’ of this government.

“The lack of any economic foresight, strategy, or policy by the PTI government has given birth to this inflation and unemployment crisis,” he concluded.
