HYDERABAD, Jan 24: The president of Ponam, Sindh, and the chairman, Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, has severely criticised the government move to authorize the National Security Council (NSC) to dissolve elected governments and said that this decision was clearly aimed at imposing a permanent dictatorship on the country.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that this step had exposed the military government’s aim of creating impediments in the way of democracy.

He said that if the NSC was to frame internal and foreign policies as well as the defence policy, there was no need of an elected parliament and democratic government.

He said that the rulers wanted to make elected government and parliament subservient to the establishment.

He said that in the civilized societies, parliament was the fountainhead of all powers but the situation in Pakistan was being reversed.

Dr Magsi said that if the country was to run as a democratic polity, all the powers will have to be given to the elected parliament.
