PESHAWAR, Nov 8: The NWFP government has reiterated its stance on the issue of net hydel profit. In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, a spokesman for NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani said that the provincial government would plead its case before a reconciliatory tribunal set up recently to settle the long-running dispute between the province and the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).

The statement, e-mailed to newspaper offices here on Tuesday, came in response to Wapda’s recently issued statement against the AGN Kazi-led committee’s formula, has been made part of the NWFP government’s case before the reconciliatory committee that has yet to start its proceedings.

The spokesman said the principled stand of the provincial government over the legal and constitutional right of the NWFP on net hydel profit was long-standing.

Regarding Wapda’s stand, the spokesman said the provincial government and Wapda had agreed to settle the net hydel profit issue in light of the AGN Qazi formula by an independent tribunal.

He said the reconciliatory committee had already been set up and would meet soon to formally start its deliberations.
