LAHORE: The Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) has decided to affiliate its hospitals with private medical colleges and sought approval from the governing body of the institution.

Social Security Commissioner Syed Bilal Haider said the social security hospitals on Multan Road, at Shahdara, Kot Lakhpat, Khawaja Farid and those in Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Islamabad would be affiliated. He said the step would improve the service delivery of hospitals while getting the services of teaching cadres of these affiliated medical colleges.

The commissioner said the teaching cadres would provide better facilities to the workers and their families in the OPDs of the hospitals. Free medical education and financial benefits would also be available to the children of registered workers.

The hospitals would be able to get the expert services of assistant professors, associate professors and professors from these medical colleges. He said the doctors working at PESSI hospitals would get post-graduation facilities at these colleges as well as training opportunities.

The affiliation with medical colleges, he said, would help hospitals utilise the latest equipment being used by these medical colleges. Regular advertisements had already been given in newspapers for affiliation.
