KOHAT: The Urban Development Authority (UDA), Kohat, here on Saturday launched the establishment of a green belt on one kilometre stretch of old Indus Highway road in front of KDA Township under the ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ initiative.

UDA director Engineer Saeed Khattak is supervising the project for which plants have been donated by the Kohat Cement Company.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the department would take full care of the plants so that saplings grew into trees and improved the environment. He said the belt would start from Gate No 3 to Gulshanabad Chowk.

Meanwhile, Darra Adamkhel assistant commissioner Younis Khan inaugurated tree plantation under the ‘Green and Clean Pakistan’ initiative by planting a sapling at his office.

SCHOOL CLOSED: The Government Boys Primary School, Chashma Mitha Khan, was closed here on Saturday for a week after 12 students tested positive for Covid-19.

The additional deputy commissioner said in a statement that all the students were checked and 12 of them tested positive for the virus.

He said the tehsil municipal administration had been asked to disinfect the whole school.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was shot dead in her home for showing resistance during robbery in Gandiali area here on Saturday. The robbers also took away three-tola gold and cash with them.

Gumbat police quoted the family members as saying that four armed robbers forcibly entered the house and asked for cash and gold jewellery. They said Nasreen Bibi showed resistance to the robbers over which they killed her.

The police have registered the case against unknown suspects.

ALLOWANCE SOUGHT: The members of corona rapid response teams (RRTs) announced a boycott of collecting samples on Saturday in protest against nonpayment of allowance for last eight months despite promises by high officials.

The Kohat team comprises Dr Adil for Darra Adamkhel, Dr Noor Kamal, Dhoda, Dr Irfan and Dr Wasif, Lachi tehsil, Dr Rizwan, Gumbat, Dr Rafique for Kharmatu and others.

Dr Jamshed, who oversees collection of samples, told this correspondent that RRTs were constituted in January 2021. He claimed that the funds had arrived, but the director-general health, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was not signing the release. He said they had been spending on conveyance from their own pockets.
