CHITRAL: Two persons died when a loaded truck coming to Chitral from Peshawar skidded off the road and fell into a ravine in Ashrait village here on Sunday morning.

An official of Ashrait police station told Dawn that the driver lost control over

the vehicle due to over-speeding, as a result, it skidded off the road and fell into a ravine.

He said that the truck driver, Rahmat Wali Shah of Arandu Chitral, and conductor Usman Ali of Barikot Swat, died on the spot.

The official said that the police registered a case against the deceased driver under sections 279 and 320 of PPC for reckless driving.

Separately, a resident of Karachi ended his life by jumping into the Chitral River on Sunday evening a few minutes before embarking on a Peshawar-bound bus.

An official of Rescue 1122 told Dawn that Raheem Eissani had come to Shoghore village to stay with an acquaintance there two weeks ago.

He added that the man had come to Chitral city to return to him home when he jumped into the river.

The official said that the swimmers of the rescue body had yet to trace the body.
