KARACHI: A paramilitary soldier was shot dead in Liaquatabad on Sunday night apparently by robbers.

Central SSP Ghulam Murtaza Tabassum said that 31-year-old Irfan Siddiqi of Pakistan Rangers and his friend, a policeman, were returning from a park. They were standing near the Furniture Market in Liaquatabad-10 when armed pillion riders arrived there. They asked the two to hand over their mobile phones and other valuables. Mr Siddiqui, who had a pistol, put up resistance and the robbers opened fire on him, the SSP said. He suffered critical bullet wounds and died.

“There was darkness when the incident occurred,” the SSP said. “It appears to be a robbery-related incident.”
