KARACHI: Water shortage

Published November 4, 2005

KARACHI, Nov 3: Several parts of the city either went dry or received scant water supply on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, thereby leaving no choice for the residents of affected localities but to purchase private tankers at exorbitant rates.

The worst affected localities include Clifton’s Block 2, parts of Bath Island, Akhtar Colony, Mehmoodabad, Bahadur Yar Jung Cooperative Housing Society and different blocks of North Karachi and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

Taking undue advantage of persisting water shortage, private tankers on Thursday did a roaring business by charging exorbitant rates for water.
