RAWALPINDI, Oct 15: The by-elections to elect a member of tehsil assembly from union council No. 42, Rawalpindi, and for Nazim seats in two union councils of Gujar Khan tehsil will be held on Tuesday.

The seat in union council No. 42 fell vacant after election of Sajjad Khan as the speaker of the tehsil assembly.

A one-to-one contest will be held between Capt (Rtd) Azhar Khan, backed by tehsil Naib Nazim Sajjad Khan, and Raja Niaz, an independent candidate.

It may be recalled that Raja Niaz had contested the election in the same constituency against Sajjad Khan.

There are about 9,000 voters in this constituency. The polling will start at 8am in the morning and continue till 4pm without break.

Talking to Dawn, the tehsil Naib Nazim, Sajjad Khan, expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements for the by-election in his home constituency.

APP ADDS: Arrangements for the by-elections in two union councils of Gujar Khan tehsil have been finalized by the Election Commission.

The posts fell vacant following the election of Nazims of these union councils, Raja Sultan Naeem Kiani and Amir Afzal Qureshi, as tehsil Nazim and Naib Nazim, respectively.

There are three candidates in the run for the post of Nazim in Union Council No.1. The candidates are Raja Tanvir Akhtar, Raja Zahid Hussain and Sheikh Mohammad Riaz.

In Mataw union council, the contest is among Chaudhry Altaf, Naimatullah and Mohammad Mansha.
