Two youths hurt in mine blast

GUJRANWALA, Nov 2: Two youths were injured seriously when a mine exploded in their hands near Alipur Chattha here on Wednesday. Reports said Safdar and Shafqat were fishing in the Chenab at Ghagha village when they saw something floating in its water. They brought it out from the river and during its checking, it exploded. Both friends sustained critical injuries and were taken to hospital.

SET TO FIRE: Some unidentified miscreants set to fire two cars, including an official vehicle, in the Commissioner’s Colony here on Tuesday night.

Reports said Saifullah Gill and DSP Khalid Mateen had parked their cars outside their houses, when some men set both vehicles to fire. Mr Gill’s car was totally damaged, while the DSP’s car was saved by the fire brigade.

Aroop police have registered a case.

ARRESTED: Wazirabad police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a drug trafficker while his three accomplices managed to escape following an encounter in Qudratabad locality here on Wednesday.

On a tip off, the Sadar police encircled the outhouse of drug traffickers and ordered them to surrender, but they opened fire which was retaliated. After a brief shootout, one of the accused identified as Irfan was arrested while three others — Akram Mochi, Sajid and Majid — escaped.

The police also recovered narcotics and illegal arms from the possession of Irfan.
