PESHAWAR: One soldier was martyred and a terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire with militants in South Waziristan tribal district between the night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that security forces engaged terrorists in the Kanniguram area of South Waziristan district. During the intense gunfight, one of the terrorists was killed.

While responding to fire from the terrorists, Naib Subedar Sonay Zai, 42, hailing from Darazinda in Dera Ismail Khan, got critically injured and later embraced shahadat.

According to the ISPR, search for the terrorists was in progress in the area.

Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of brave soldiers further strengthened its resolve, the ISPR said.
