HYDERABAD: Activists of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) staged a sit-in outside City police station in Tando Mohammad Khan on Friday against police’s failure to arrest Pakistan Peoples Party activists allegedly involved in an attack on the convoy of Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, the PM’s special assistant for Sindh, a day ago.

PTI activists and supporters of Dr Arbab also brought out rallies and staged sit-ins in several towns of Tharparkar and Badin districts against the unpleasant incident.

PTI activists told journalists at the sit-in that police had not even registered an FIR against the miscreants, who attacked Dr Arbab’s convoy on Thursday. They would continue to protest till the suspects were arrested, they warned.

Later, they told a press conference that Dr Arbab, who had served as the Sindh chief minister, was leaving the press club when PPP activists intercepted his convoy and beat up PTI workers. Dr Arbab had offered condolences to Mir family in the town and then arrived at the press club to speak at a press conference, they said.

They said that PPP activists hurled abuses at him, which was condemnable. PPP had set a bad precedent and now it should be ready when PTI activists would pay it in the same coin by intercepting convoys of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and other PPP leaders, they said. T.M. Khan PPP MPA Syed Aijaz Shah Bukhari distanced himself from the attack and said that PPP did not believe in vindictive actions and the party had nothing to do with this ugly incident.

But PPP Hyderabad spokesman Ahsan Abro appeared to justify the attack by saying that Arbab had faced wrath of public, who had become fed up with PTI government’s policies.

Dr Arbab terms attack premeditated

MITHI: Dr Arbab has said that attack on his convoy in TM Khan a day ago was premeditated and part of a larger conspiracy to stop him from exposing true faces of “corrupt” PPP leaders. He told journalists over phone that the attack by some goons sent by PPP leaders was another desperate attempt by the corrupt Sindh rulers to pressurise him.

“The PPP rulers are counting their last days of misrule in Sindh as authorities of National Accountability Bureau are likely to lay their hands on some of the leaders occupying key posts in the provincial government,’’ he added.
