MIANWALI, Nov 1: Two jail officials were suspended on Tuesday from service for taking bribe from inmates to provide them certain facilities. Central Jail Superintendent Abdul Rauf Rana took the action on report of Assistant Superintendent Muhammad Tariq who caught the officials, Ibrahim and Ilyas, while receiving cash from the prisoners and recovered 600 rupees from them.

Reports said the prisoners who bribed the officials were allowed to keep prohibited items, including drugs and cash, with them.

SUICIDE: Ghulam Mohiuddin, 18, son of a barber, committed suicide by swallowing rat-poison pills in Tarag Sharif village.

The youth was rushed to the DHQ hospital where he died.

Police said Mohiuddin quarrelled with his brothers and was snubbed by his father.

Distillery unearthed: Assistant Superintendent Police Saleem Khan Marwat has said elimination of crimes, particularly narcotics, from the city would be his priorities.

He stated this after a team of police unearthed a distillery and recovered a huge quantity of wine from a house at Ballokhel.

According to the city police station officials, a team recovered 330 litres of wine from the house of Muhammad Ramzan. They quoted the owner as saying that he was preparing a huge quantity of wine to meet the increased demand during Eid holidays.

The ASP told journalists that the police had also arrested the alleged murderer, Matiullah Khan, from Shahbazkhel who slipped away from the sessions court on Saturday last.

The ASP has suspended nine policemen, including Sub-Inspector Hidayatullah, for negligence.

CORRUPTION: Contractor Abdul Sattar Khan in his application to the Anti-Corruption Establishment and other agencies has alleged that the District Accounts Office officials have demanded their commission to pass his bill of the construction of a primary school at Dhoke Chanwala.

He alleged that the officials were overtly receiving their commission from the contractors and other provincial government employees on one pretext or the other. The contractor demanded a high-level inquiry.

When contacted, the officials of accounts office denied the charge and said all payment bills were to be processed and minutely checked.
