HARIPUR: Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to visit Tarbela Dam today (Thursday) to lay the foundation stone of the dam’s 5th extension project, official sources said here on Wednesday.

Official and party sources said Wapda officials would brief the premier about the existing generation capacity of the power project.

According to official documents, three power generating units each with 510MW capacity would be installed at the Tunnel 5 of the Tarbela’s reservoir with a total cost of US $807 million.

The World Bank and the Infrastructure Investment Bank are the main funding agencies of the project that is being built in the Ghazi tehsil of Haripur.

The project would add 1,530MW electricity to the national grid by 2024.
