HYDERABAD, Nov 1: The University of Sindh will introduce an education management information system to record attendance of faculty members and students at deans’ offices.

This was decided at a meeting of the deans’ committee of the university here on Tuesday.

A four-member sub-committee had presented a report on the attendance system after studying the system followed in other universities.

The meeting also reviewed rules of the semester system, attendance of students and teachers, announcement of results and completion of course work in the scheduled time.

It decided that the new attendance system would be established soon at every dean’s office.

It further decided that staff members would daily collect attendance of students from institutes and departments concerned. The attendance would be computerized on daily basis and names of absent students would be communicated to admissions and examinations departments.

The meeting also decided that heads of institutes and departments would inform the position of attendance of students to their parents on monthly basis during first three months of every semester.

It said sections concerned, including examinations department, concerned tabulators and faculty members, would be bound to ensure announcement of results on schedule.

To develop university-industry liaison, the meeting asked heads of institutes and departments to coordinate with industries to develop a good relationship.

Vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the meeting. Dr Kazi Khadim Hussain, Dr Mohammad Yar Khuhawar, Dr Anwar Ali Shah, Dr Mohammad Usman Memon, Dr Iqbal Ahmad Panhwar, Mohammad Saleh Rajar, Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr Rafia Ahmad Shaikh, Prof Ferozuddin Qazi and Dr Abdul Wahab Ansari attended the meeting.

HOLIDAYS: The University of Sindh will remain closed on Nov 3, 4 and 5 on account of Eidul Fitr and on Nov 9 on account of Allama Iqbal Day, announced the registrar.

WASA: A central control room has been established at the office of the managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency and emergency centres have also been set up at divisional offices which will remain open from 9am to 4pm during Eid holidays.

This was notified by the Wasa managing director here on Tuesday.

He said staff would remain present at the centres to meet any emergency situation with regard to water supply and sewerage services.
