KALASHA CULTURE

KALASHA CULTURE: The Kalasha culture is the only one in Pakistan that is recognised by Unesco as ‘intangible cultural heritage’. Statistics have revealed that the Kalasha population has gone down to less than 4,000 owing to various factors. The government should ensure the survival of Kalasha people and their culture.

INDIAN MANIPULATION: This is with reference to the editorial “India’s admission” (July 21) related to the revelation that New Delhi ensured that Pakistan remained on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. Despite adherence to 26 out of 27 points on the FATF agenda, the continued stance towards Pakistan is irksome. India’s manipulation of a significant international technical forum has put the credibility of FATF at stake. The money-laundering watchdog needs to clarify its position in this regard and make sure it is not acting on behalf of one country against another.

DAMAGED ROAD: The condition of Dhoke Juma Road is deteriorating with each passing day as the Chaklala Cantonment Board has turned a blind eye to its maintenance despite complaints. The recent rains have added to the dilapidated condition of the road which connects the cantonment area to different localities of the city. The matter needs urgent attention of the relevant authorities.

MIGRATORY BIRDS: Millions of game birds come to Pakistan every year during the winters. The number, however, has decreased in recent years owing to the changing climate pattern. Pakistan is among the countries that are highly affected by the climate change phenomenon. Pakistan has hundreds of water reservoirs, like the Manchar lake, where the migratory birds spend their time. These birds are an important part of our ecosystem, and the government needs to protect the water reservoirs to save our climate and the ecosystem.
