SWABI: A drug addict was killed by his son after a quarrel in Baja-Bamkhel area here on Wednesday, the police said.

Registering an FIR with the Swabi city police station, the widow of the deceased, Sher Khan, said her husband was a drug addict and always demanded money from them for buying drugs.

She said her 18-year-old son, Salman Khan, opened fire on his father with a pistol after a quarrel, leaving him seriously injured. She said the injured was taken to the district headquarters hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The police after registering FIR started investigations.

In a separate development, a teachers’ organisation on Wednesday handed over notebooks and stationery to over 200 poor students in Manki union council.

Speaking at a function on the occasion, members of the organisation said the body was established to help the poor students continue their education.

They said schoolchildren had been selected through a survey for distribution of notebooks among them.

“The organisation was set up with the sole purpose of providing support to the poor students,” said a teacher.

Also in the day, the Swabi tehsil municipal administration removed fallen trees from various roads on Wednesday.

Officials said the Sunday night wind and thunderstorm had uprooted many trees, blocking roads.
