LAHORE: A card of six races, featuring two cup events, has been laid down for the seventh day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The feature event, the Eid Cup, a class VII Division I (Class VI included) to be contested over 1,000 metres has 10 acceptors. Despite the muggy weather persisting in the city, horse-owners and trainers have shown greater interest in the cup race by entering some of their finest horses in a field of ten to compete. However, four of them look on chance, if present form and performance in races is any yardstick to pick the probable winner.
The quartet is Drums Of War, Believe Me, Remember Me and Amanah. On handicap, the three-year-old son of Tybalt out-of-Emaan looks to be ideally placed land set to win the cup race to make it two wins on the trot. The other three will be her main challengers.
The supporting event, the Sprinters Cup, a class VII Division II and III combined handicap race has to be gone over 1,000 metres has eight runners. It looks a close contest between four confirmed sprinters — Codes Cracker, Hamlet, Jee Aya Nu and Prince Of Arab. They should decide about for the top honours.
The opener, the Jhelum Plate Class VII Division V over 900 metres is the only race in which the apprentice riding boys are to take part.
The four-year-old roan filly, Magical City, is likely to be fancied in the race. The filly had been the public fancy favourite on her previous two outings, disappointing her backers each time besides denting trainer A.B. Malik’s reputation as a good conditioner of horses. Trick Or Treat, Zahid Love and Asad Choice look good for places.
In all, 56 horses are to compete in the six event programme. Four races will be gone over 900 metres and two over 1,000 metres.
The first race will be held at 5.00pm.
