KHYBER: An Afghan porter girl was killed when a heavy truck hit her at Torkham border on Sunday while police apprehended an Afghan national with fake Afghan currency during the routine scanning at the border crossing.

Officials said that the Afghan girl was taking personal luggage of returning Afghans when she was hit by a heavy loaded truck near the zero point of the border. She died on the spot.

Meanwhile, police arrested an Afghan national identified as Turan and recovered from his possession 650,000 fake Afghan currency during routine checking of all passengers at the National Logistic Cell scanning machine.

The arrested Afghan national was later shifted to Landi Kotal sub jail while the fake currency was confiscated.

PROTEST: Scores of agitated Walikhel tribesmen blocked the Peshawar-Torkham Highway on Sunday against prolonged and unscheduled power loadshedding.

They said that excessive loadshedding also caused shortage of drinking water as all the tubewells could not be run owing to power cuts and low voltage.

The road was reopened after police and local administration officials, assisted by local elders, assured the protesters of resolution of their issue.
