KARACHI: Dr Qudsia Shaukat Omar, the founder of the Shaukat Omar Mem­orial Hospital, died at the Aga Khan University Hospital here on Sunday, says a statement.

Born on Nov 30, 1929 in Meerut, India, she studied at the Aligarh Muslim Univer­sity before doing her MBBS from the Fatimah Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, in 1954. She was married to Mr Shaukat Omar on Aug 5, 1956 but her husband died just 12 days after the marriage.

Dr Qudsia established the Shaukat Omar Memorial Hospital, in Drigh Village Refugee Colony (currently known as Shah Faisal Colony) which was inaugurated on Aug 30, 1960.

She donated the hospital to the Fauji Foundation in 1979 and served it as the medical director from March 1979 to Feb 2005.
